St. Johns River Headwaters

Friends Sarah, Tina, Beth and I took a sunrise tour of Blue Cypress Lake on a pontoon boat.

I learned several things on this tour. I learned that this lake has the largest population of Ospreys in Florida. There was a nesting pair in almost every tree, so I don't doubt it.

We were given several opportunities to photograph ospreys in flight. I got a few.
 This one has a fish.
He caught it; she wants it.
Our guide says this is a much photographed cypress tree, and has appeared in magazines.

I learned this lake is the headwaters of the St. Johns River. Here we enter the river which flows north to its mouth in Jacksonville.
At the end of the tour we were cold from the settling fog and made a fast ride back across the lake. We all bundled up against the wind.
